In 2007 my then husband and I welcomed our beautiful son, Straten, to our family. On investigating care options for Straten, I discovered in-home childcare and fell in love with the concept of in-home childcare and truly believe it is an ideal setting for children who require care. I decided to investigate the role of an in-home educator further, and made the decision to leave my role as a Commercial Property Advisor at Wellington City Council and become an in-home educator. It has been my greatest career move; I love what I do, and it is an honour that families entrust me with the care of their most precious treasure. I have been an in-home educator for 14+ years and hold a National Certificate in Early Childhood Education & Care (Level 3) and have a current First Aid Certificate. I offer a cheerful, lively, fun, and safe environment where children can be children. I strive to foster learning through experience while feeling encouraged, supported, and special. My home of 20 years has a fantastic large secure garden plus excellent indoor space, both with great resources for your child to enjoy. I am an animal lover and believe pets play an important role in a child's development helping to develop non-verbal communication, empathy, respect, patience, and compassion. I also believe having a strong bond with a pet can contribute to building a child's self-confidence and self-esteem and can assist with building trusting relationships with others. Our family has pets; we have a young golden retriever called Hank, a cat called Eve - both have grown up around small children have always been well loved by children in my care - and we also have 5 cockatiels. In my very limited spare time, I enjoy time with Straten, walks with Hank and always have endless DIY projects on the go at home. Verbal references are available on request.
