Bird Feeders

In winter, there are fewer flowers, berries and insects for native birds to eat. At Nurtured at Home playgroups, we’ve started making bird feeders for our tamariki to hang around their community or at home.  Bird feeders are easy to make with children, and in June our free monthly resource for Educators will be instructions and seed so that we can all make bird feeders at home with children in care.

Nurtured at Home fosters the disposition of responsibility and manaakitia by encouraging our tamariki to be involved with caring for our natural environment, with trips to local parks, nature walks, and Discovery Days to learn about our native flora and fauna.  Making bird feeders is one way we can give back to our natural environment whilst at the same time discovering and making connections with our local community.
